Royal biographer Hugo Vickers has made explosive claims about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s exit from the British monarchy, popularly known as Megxit. The author claimed that he always believed Markle had a “little plan” to step down from royal duties. However, he was shocked that she chose to exit while Queen Elizabeth II was still alive.

Author claims he knew Meghan Markle wasn’t going to stay in the UK forever

Royal author Hugo Vickers recently appeared on an episode of the podcast “The Royalist.” According to RadarOnline, he claimed during the episode that he always knew Meghan Markle wouldn’t stay in the U.K. forever. He also said that he expected Megxit to happen.

Vickers mentioned that Queen Elizabeth II gave Prince Harry and Markle the opportunity to work across the Commonwealth. This was done so they could explore their roles. However, he added that he had long believed Markle had a “little plan” of exiting the monarchy.

While Vickers claimed he knew Megxit would happen, he admitted he was surprised by the timing of her departure. The author of the book “A Royal Life” said that he was shocked that it happened during the late queen’s reign. “The only thing which surprised me – because I never thought that she would stay forever – was that she did it in the Queen’s reign, in the Queen’s lifetime. Because I thought that was not going to happen,” Vickers said.

Harry and Markle tied the knot in 2018. In 2020, they announced their desire to build a life away from the royal family. The couple initially proposed that they would continue as working royals while seeking “financial independence” abroad. However, the late queen reportedly made it clear that such an arrangement would not be possible. As a result, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to step down as senior working royals. Plus, they moved to Montecito, California, later that year and currently reside there with their two children.
